So we follow in Christ’s footsteps: proclaiming good news to the poor, release to the captives, healing for those who are sick or lame or blind, letting the oppressed go free. We speak out for compassion, mercy, and justice, for freedom and for peace, because these are the heart of Jesus, the very character of God. They are the manifestation of God's Kingdom breaking into our world. And if we are about those things, people might get interested in Jesus, and just maybe they'll even be interested in the church. But church isn’t the point. We’ve too often gotten it backwards.
