Bible Text: Luke 1:26-56, Isaiah 49:8-13
Unfortunately, this week's sermon didn't get recorded. But here's the gist of it:
The incarnation of God as Jesus Christ as a miraculous and scandalous idea, one that we too quickly brush past. To put it in colorful terms: God became "encased in meat." This idea was appalling to many people in the first centuries after Christ, because what self-respecting god would allow himself to experience true humanity? What god would subject himself to human birth, in all of its messiness? What god would suffer and die?
But that is precisely the point: in God's unending love for us, God went to unfathomable lengths to restore us to relationship with himself.
May we take time to reflect upon this miracle and scandal this season.
